Current Campaigns

Fall Semester 2010

APE is a family, and everyone's input counts our club is based solely on what us (as members) make it. So if you have an issue you want to share and for us to work on locally, statewide, or further. Bring it up for discussion. Here are a few that will be focused on.

1. Recycle Campaign - Leading up to the Trash Audit in November. (Now that Charleston County recycles   #'s1-7 Wahoo! we need new statistics)

2. A research on how SC's sea bed is not fit for oil drilling/producing. An APE contact will write up a newspaper article on it for the Post and Courier. Putting a stop to the political stunt "SC has oil". No wind and solar!

3. Urban Gardens otherwise known as community gardens. Working at our very own  Bogarden
Also the Charleston area non-profit  Children's Garden Project is another huge opportunity!

4. Street Sweeps, picking up trash and sprucing up our downtown neighborhoods. Brunch before all sweeps.

5. CofC Bicycle Campaign- Implementing a bike share program on campus like many other campuses are starting to create. Students can come and go by putting their i.d. on file and bring it back when they are done.
Here are a few links to cities and schools that have started one.
Denver

Oberlin

Davidson

6. Reuse! Campaign. Instead of buying water bottles made of plastic that use oil to create. Spend a few dollars that will save you money in the long run on a reusable coffee to-go coffee up,  travel mugs, cold beverage containers/ canteens / tumblers. For some some great low cost products try CopCo/ Travel Mugs
In most cases your tap or filtered water is much cleaner than the water in a bottle.

  • Also bring a fork and knife with you, and for-go the plastic silver wear, avoid the breakage and the small spoons that aren't big enough for food and the knifes that won't cut.
  • Bring a reusable bag with you when you shopping. Why use plastic bags when you can use your own. "Ban the Bag"

... More to come!
